History

Viaresu has been around a good long time in Nadil's army. He was present at Nadil and Lykouleon's confrontation over Raseleane, though only about 12 or so, judging by his appreance. At that age he was quite  a bloodthirsty and rough little kid. It was after the two Lords' fight that he investigated Illuser's dead body and became infected with the Dragon Lord's blood, thereby receiving his ability to enter the Dragon Palace. He apparently survived this encounter with the poisonous blood because he was "worthy" of it (see DK 2). Right after this, Rath, who was at the time a vicious and demonic beast, discovered and possessed Illuser's corpse. Viaresu engaged in a rather one-sided battle with the youkai Rath. He survived the encounter, but lost his right arm in the process. A good friend, Yotogi/Lobal, sacrificed his life to save Viaresu and gave him a new right arm.

5 or 6 years afterwards if you judge by his appearance (but it may well have been decades), Viaresu was living in Nadil's city along with a few youkai friends of his, much matured and world-wise. Rumors had spread through the city of Nadil's powerful "precious gem", and all the youkai were eager to discover its mysterious powers for themselves. Uninterested, Viaresu wandered off by himself--only to have a casket literally fall from the sky before him. Upon opening the glass case, he found what appeared to be a little girl doll--Nadil's fabled "precious gem". Unfortunately, a group of demons from Arinas had arrived in search of the same treasure, and Viaresu and the girl, Cesia, were pursued through the maze-like passages of Nadil's castle. After risking his life several times for her sake, receiving a boost from her wind magic, and ultimately defeating all the Arinas youkai, Viaresu managed to deliver her into safe hands in Nadil's palace.  But before he left, he proved he loved her by almost giving her a good-bye kiss. He eventually found his way out of the castle (I guess he wasn't allowed inside) with the help the part-human youkai, Gil.

Years (again, maybe 2-3 by appearance but who knows how many in reality?) later, Viaresu learned that Cesia was living with the Dragon Tribe in their palace.  He saw both the Dragon Tribe and Rath as a danger to Cesia's life, and went to retrieve her. It was a risky operation, what with having to lie to the youkai army about his motives and Cesia herself mistrusting him. Worst of all, the alchemist Kharl decided to use Viaresu's right arm as a little experiment, implanting a powerful demon seed into it.  Kharl possessed him and nearly caused him to kill Cesia himself. Faced with the fact that he was currently more of a danger to Cesia than anyone else, Viaresu managed to throw Kharl's spell off for a period of time, but asked Rath to kill him to keep Cesia safe.  His last thoughts to Cesia: "Nadil's spell disguised you as a human then. But even if you had been human, I still would have..." Fill in the blank for yourself.

So the big question was for many volumes: Is Viaresu dead? I always said no, considering that he kept appearing in all the character lists in the front of the manga and that no one actually said he was dead--the characters all skimmed delicately over that subject, never quite saying the words. I always believed that he was somewhere, biding his time, watching out for Cesia...

And now, of course, we know that he IS in fact alive.  (I'm always right...xD) Apparently, Rath didn't kill him but merely "absorbed" him, and Cesia managed to resurrect both him and Gil in DK 21. Viaresu holds the Red Dragon Gem and has the potential to become the Red Dragon Officer. He agreed to work with the group and rescue Rath, but an attack from Fedelta split everybody up. Viaresu ended up traveling with Thats for a time (fighting all the way xD), and met up with Lobal (I call him Yotogi), the turbaned friend who gave him his arm. Sadly, Yotogi seems to have betrayed them and led Viaresu right into a trap. @_x After defeating the Arinas demon for the second time, Viaresu wandered around on his own and came face-to-face with Shyrendora. He's currently in quite a bit of danger...let's hope Ohkami doesn't decide to kill him off AGAIN. ;O;
